Home Inspector Services Contractor (RHISC) license in Oregon

Lets a business provide home inspections and nothing else that needs a contractor license.

A home inspector, in Oregon law, is someone paid to inspect a home and give a written report on its overall physical condition. This endorsement covers the business. The person doing the inspection needs a separate state certification, and the business must have a certified owner or employee. Some general and specialty contractors also provide inspections through a certified inspector.

The business can't take other contractor work. A contractor that provides inspections also can't bid on or do repairs to a structure it inspected for 12 months after the inspection, so treat any offer to fix what the report found as a warning sign.

Ask who will inspect the home and check that person in CCB's separate home inspector search. The state minimums for the business are a $15,000 bond and $100,000 per occurrence in liability insurance.
