C-27 Landscaping Contractor license in California

Updated November 1, 2026 · Official name from CSLB's classification list

A C-27 contractor builds, maintains and repairs gardens and grounds around a home or other building, for looks, function or both. CSLB's description covers public and private gardens and includes preparing and grading plots for planting and decorative treatments.

This is the license for a new front yard, a drought-tolerant conversion or a backyard redesign. Bigger yard projects often pull in other trades, such as a pool, gas line or electrical circuit, and those need their own licenses.
